Big Birds

Environmental artist Bryant Holsenbeck has been working with students at two West Cary Schools, Mills Park Middle School and Green Hope High School, to complete an environmental artist residency project entitled Big Birds. Holsenbeck has guided students in a process to create four large birds from primarily recycled materials while engaging students in lessons about the environment, the social practice of artists working in communities, Earth Day, and Cary conservation practices. The birds will be completed at the festival with assistance from guests.

Project Linus

The Project Linus Chapter of Wake County, NC was started in 1996 by Susie Holmes. Over 36,000 blankets have been delivered to many local groups and agencies that help seriously ill or traumatized children who need a hug from a blanket. Guests of the festival will have the opportunity to decorate a quilt square with springtime drawings or messages of inspiration. The decorated quilt squares will then be assembled onsite by Project Linus and festival volunteers. At the conclusion of the festival, all of the quilts made will be donated to Project Linus to be distributed to local organizations in need.

FloraFFiti

FloraFFiti is a public art place making project that has been developed by Cary Visual Art and Cary High School students working with artist Carter Hubbard. During the past few months, Carter has been working with students to develop this project for mulched areas in the vicinity of the Bond Park Boathouse. This spring, words will emerge from seeds that the students planted in March and students will perform text during intervals at the Festival.
